On September 20, 2024, Turkey officially began constructing its first domestically designed air defense destroyer, the TF-2000, as announced by ASFAT. Developed by the Turkish Navy’s Design Project Office, this advanced warship is being built at the Istanbul Naval Shipyard, a renowned facility for its shipbuilding expertise.

The TF-2000 is a
versatile destroyer capable of multiple missions, including anti-aircraft
warfare (AAW) using SIPER surface-to-air missiles, tactical land strikes with
GEZGIN cruise missiles, anti-submarine warfare (ASW) with towed sonar systems
and ASW helicopters, and anti-surface warfare (ASuW) with Atmaca missiles.
This cutting-edge
destroyer will feature nearly all of Türkiye's recent advancements in naval
technology. It will be equipped with an indigenous vertical launch system (VLS)
for domestic surface-to-air missiles and Gezgin land-attack cruise missiles.
The TF-2000 will also be notable for incorporating directed-energy weapons,
including high-energy lasers, demonstrating Turkey's progress in naval defense
systems.
