The CH-9, a long-range unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) developed by China’s aerospace company CASC, was showcased at China’s 2024 AirShow as a flexible, multi-role drone in the “Rainbow” series. With a flight range of up to 11,500 km, the CH-9 is designed for extended intelligence gathering and precision strikes, making it valuable for military uses and attractive to international markets.

This UAV has a
24.8-meter wingspan and a maximum takeoff weight of 5,000 kg, allowing it to
carry various specialized equipment for different missions. It can handle
payloads up to 480 kg, which includes advanced sensors for real-time
intelligence, and it can be armed with several types of precision-guided
weapons. This capability makes the CH-9 useful for both surveillance and
tactical strike missions.
Among its weapon options are FT series bombs, which enable the CH-9 to hit targets accurately, minimizing collateral damage. The drone can also be equipped with the CM-502 missile, a compact, guided weapon effective against armored vehicles and fortified positions. Another option, the LS-6 guided bomb, adds further precision, allowing controlled, targeted strikes for sensitive operations.
The CH-9’s
endurance is equally remarkable, capable of flying for up to 40 hours without
landing, with speeds ranging from 200 to 420 km/h. It can reach altitudes up to
11,000 meters, which enhances its ability to conduct high-altitude
surveillance. With satellite control, it can operate over a range of 2,000 km,
making it ideal for missions that extend beyond direct visual control, such as
border security and regional monitoring.

exports, the CH-9 offers a cost-effective solution for countries that need
surveillance and limited strike abilities without investing in larger UAV
platforms. With its combination of long flight time, adaptable payloads, and
