Following the
delivery of Caesar howitzers in February 2022 at the onset of Russia's
invasion, France has progressively increased its military aid to Ukraine,
sending AMX-10 armored vehicles in January 2023 and Scalp missiles in July.
Now, France has pledged to provide an unspecified number of Mirage 2000-5
fighter jets to bolster Ukraine's air attack.
France plans to deliver Mirage 2000-5F fighters to Ukraine, modified for ground attacks as part of its ongoing support for the Ukrainian Armed Forces. According to the French newspaper Sud Ouest, the first aircraft is expected to arrive in Ukraine by the end of the year.
Originally designed for air combat, the Mirage 2000-5F will be upgraded to meet Ukraine’s needs, allowing it to effectively target ground objectives. France has already begun the process, which includes both technical modifications and the training of Ukrainian pilots.
The upgrades will equip the fighters with advanced guidance systems, enabling them to conduct precision strikes on fortifications, military vehicles, and other key ground targets.
